Leonid Slutsky, head of the Russian parliamentary committee for the CIS, Eurasian integration and compatriots abroad, emphasized that relations between Russia and Azerbaijan were as stable as never before, despite the outrage caused by Orkhan Zeynalov (an Azerbaijani native), accused of stabbing Yegor Shcherbakov to death in Russia. He called the focus on Zeynalov’s origin an informative provocation targeting relations between Moscow and Baku.Slutsky reminded that many Azerbaijanis lived in Moscow and other cities of Russia and many of them were doctors and teachers. The MP assured that relations with Azerbaijan will be constructive and fruitful after the presidential polls won by Ilham Aliyev on October 9.Sergey Markov, Pro-Rector of the Plekhanov Russian University for Economics, urged mass media sources to correct their position on pointing out nationalities of criminals. He reminded that millions of Azerbaijanis were citizens of Russia. Most of them work and contribute to the economy and socio-political system.Markov said that not a single incorrect statement had been made by Russian officials.
